Our Analysts

Sanjay Magotra

Sanjay is a Director and Head of Research at Southern Cross Equities. He is also responsible for the coverage of the Infrastructure & Utilities sector. Sanjay has covered the sector for 12 years and has continually achieved high ratings in both public surveys and client reviews. Prior to joining Southern Cross Equities, Sanjay spent 12 years at Citi, where he was the Head of Australian Infrastructure & Utilities franchise before taking on the international responsibility as the Global Head of Infrastructure research. Sanjay has Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Electronics and Telecommunications, and MBA from AGSM.

Stuart Roberts

Stuart Roberts, Director of Research and Healthcare and Biotechnology Analyst: Stuart has been an analyst at Southern Cross Equities in Sydney since April 2001. Stuart is a journalist by training and has complimented these skills with a Masters Degree in Finance from Finsia. Stuart has previously worked at the ASX and investor publication firms. Stuart is an avid researcher of his chosen speciality.

Daniel Blair

Daniel Blair, Telco Analyst. Daniel's 8-years corporate experience in the sector gives him a specialist insight. Prior to joining Southern Cross Equities, Daniel spent 4 years with the Telecom NZ Group as part of their corporate strategy and M&A function. Previous to that Daniel worked in the European telco market with Cables & Wireless Plc. Daniel has degrees in law and corporate finance.

Peter Chapman

Peter Chapman, Resource Analyst, Peter has over 25 years experience in the resources investment sector mostly in stock broking with some years spent also in funds management. Peter's technical (engineering) and financial (MBA) training preceded his vast and varied experience gained in all facets of the industry.

Fleur Grose

Fleur joined the Mining Research Team in 2008, following 5 years as a Resources Analyst at UBS. Prior to entering the broking industry Fleur worked as an Engineer for 4 years with Orica, and studied full time for an MBA.

Johan Hedstrom

Johan has worked as an analyst for 25 years in funds management, stockbroking and with an independent research house. With a background as a geologist, Johan’s focus has been on oil & gas companies, but he is also researching companies using less conventional fuel sources, such as Coal Seam Gas (CSG) and Underground Coal Gasification (UCG). Johan joined Southern Cross Equities in 2009 from the Bell Financial Group, which acquired SCEQ in 2008.

TS Lim

TS Lim, Financials Analyst, TS spent 17 years in ASB Bank and Commonwealth Bank prior to joining Southern Cross Equities. He was involved in group strategy, mergers & acquisitions, JVs and capital management in the Office of the CEO, and also spent time in financial management in CBA's retail banking and financial services divisions.

Hamish Perks

Hamish joined Southern Cross Equities in 2009 and is responsible for covering emerging industrial stocks. Prior to joining Southern Cross Equities, Hamish spent 5 years at UBS in both Equities Research and Investment Banking roles. Hamish has a Bachelor of Commerce, a Bachelor of Laws (Hons), and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance & Investment from FINSIA.

Mathan Somasundaram

Mathan Somasundaram, Head of Quant & Data Services, has worked in financial markets for over 13 years in both regional and global level. Prior to joining Southern Cross Equities in February 2009, Mathan was based in US as a Director of Global Equities for a global IT/Data management service provider for the past 2 years. Before that Mathan was at an international broking house for nearly 12 years where he finished both as a global Director and a rated Analyst in Quant & Data Services. Mathan’s qualifications are Electrical Engineering from USYD and Executive MBA from AGSM.

Janice Tai

Janice Tai is a Quant and System analyst with over 10 years of experience in the insurance, bond & equities markets. Prior to joining Southern Cross Equities Janice worked for international broking firms for equities and bond data. Previous to that she was in the insurance industry. Janice has a Bachelor of Commerce with emphasis in Finance & Insurance along with a Masters in Applied Finance from Monash.

Lafitani Sotiriou

Lafitani Sotiriou, Analyst, joins the team with over 5 years experience in the banking & finance sector, having worked at both national & multinational firms. His earlier role included managing dealer group relationships, and later progressed to a relationship manager position working with mid-cap multi-national corporations. He is currently enrolled at UNSW in the Master of Commerce program.

Joel Weiss

Joel Weiss, Assistant Analyst, Joel’s role is to support Southern Cross Equities research team. Joel is undertaking tertiary studies in commerce and law.
